In the Great Gatsby📖
Myrtle 👩🏼is a poor woman and her husband is a car mechanic.👨🏻🔧 Their financial situation is very poor and she has put up with that terrible quality of life. She is vain and willing to be Tom's mistress, longing for the upper life💫💫💫. She hopes to be Tom's wife 🌹and have a privileged life✨. But what she doesn't know is that Tom just enjoys the exciting time with her, and he never wants to be with her. Even though sometimes Tom exposes his true self to her, she still chooses to ignore this fact🙉🙈🙉and believe the love between them simply and foolishly.🌚🌚🌚
Tom 👨🏻is an insidious and smart upper-class person. He is the representative of old money💰. He likes to find lowlifes as his mistresses. Their vanity is easily satisfied with money💰 and they all listen to Tom. But Tom does not really like them and he even beat his mistress. He and his mistress, Myrtle, are the subtle exploiters and victims of this secret relationship. But exploitation ‼️‼️is creeping on for a woman who is losing her sanity over the American dream of being rich, and for a man who wants to exploit the unrealistic American dream of the lower classes for his own benefit and needs❗️❕❗️❕❗️❕❗️❕❗️❕🦟🦟🦟
For me🤔👧, the American dream is the deprivation of the upper class to the lower class. The people at the top take advantage of the American dream of the lower class to meet their own interests and needs. For the upper class, the American dream is just a tool of exploitation. The people at the bottom are the victims💔💔💔 of the American dream.
👩🏼Myrtle thinks her American dream is coming true. 👏👏👏She gets the money she wants, the vanity, the parties for the rich. But it was because she can not see clearly that the real situation of the American dream is the exploitation of the upper class to the lower class, 👀👀👀and she is immersed in the fantasy and beauty of the coming American dream, which leads to her gradually lost. 🙅🏻♀️However, the reality is that she has never achieved the American dream. In the process of realizing the American dream, she gains a lot of vanity and temptation brought by the American dream. This makes her insist on realizing her American dream, but the person who gives her the American dream does not give her any chance to make it come true.👐🏻👐🏻👐🏻👐🏻

Quotation:“Tom Buchanan and Mrs. Wilson stood face to face discussing in impassioned voices whether Mrs. Wilson had any right to mention Daisy's name."Daisy! Daisy! Daisy!" shouted Mrs. Wilson. "I'll say it whenever I want to! Daisy! Dai----"Making a short deft movement Tom Buchanan broke her nose with his open hand.”
🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
Tom is willing to take Myrtle to a fancy apartment for a party and spend a night.🌙🌙 But he does not allow her to mention Daisy’s name, which shows my idea that the American dream is a way for the upper class to exploit the lower class💣💣💣. Once the people at the top get what they want, the efforts and sincerity of others are useless. Because after Tom gets Myrtle, he satisfies his needs, and his attitude towards Myrtle changes from obedience to violence💢. He does not allow Myrtle to touch his bottom line, which was his marriage👩❤️👨. The upper class only cares about their own interests and deliberately uses the American dream as a means to attract the people in the bottom who are full of desire. They keep these people who are attracted to the American dream in their hands, and they don't let them go beyond their limitations🚫🚫🚫🚫🚫🚫🚫🚫🚫🚫🚫🚫🚫, which is the most they can get the illusion of the American dream. She called Daisy's name for no reason many times, but Tom hits her hard on the nose, and the blood bleeds all over her face. This also shows that once the people at the bottom want to exceed the restrictions🚷, they will be treated cruelly💔💔💔. Even if they are treated that way, it is still hard for them to realize the evil behind them because the American dream looks so gorgeous and attractive 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩on the surface. Therefore, from my point of view, they are all the victims of the American dream, which is caused by the upper class.🤕🤕🤕
Therefore, Myrtle needs to make a change🤜🏻🤛🏻 and face up to its unrealistic and impossible American dream😼. Tom just wants to get what he wants from her. As for what Myrtle really wants after his getting, he doesn't care and will not achieve it. 😑😑😑She should understand who gives her the American dream, and who set her up the conspiracy to get her wrong❌❌❌❌❌. Tom is the one who abuses her emotionally and he does it on purse, because of his upper-class identity. This also shows my idea that the upper class ruthlessly deprives the people of the bottom by using the American dream. Therefore, Myrtle needs to make a change and face up to its unrealistic and impossible American dream. She must know that Tom only wants to get what he wants from her. As for what Myrtle really wants after he gets it, he doesn't care. She should understand who gives her the American dream, which is totally a conspiracy.💀💀💀💀💀💀👁🧠🧠🧠🧠🧠🧠

Myrtle’s tragic experience is similar to Mr. NICK INJOW, who is an interviewee in my media example. This character also has an excellent educational background👍. He works for a company for many years and he is a very good American worker🤗, he thinks that he has realized his American dream😝, but in fact, as an immigrant, he lost three good jobs😓. At the same time, although Myrtle's identity is different from this person's, she is an American🇺🇸, not an immigrant🧐🧐🧐🧐. But for the high class, she is from a poor place. If she wants to enter the upper-class society, she is still an outsider 👩🏻🦯and a disguised immigrant. Besides, she is soon bored because her usefulness for Tom is gone quickly. 💨💨💨 Therefore, she and Mr. NICK INJOW have a similar ending to the American dream, which also illustrates my idea that the American dream is unrealistic🤦🏻♀️and constantly exploits the poor people. After the top class has used up their labor and wealth to create value, everything that the poor people desire for will not be realized. 🌫🌫🌫Instead, they will be laid off in the face of some problems. All their years of hard work have been in vain, because of exploitation of the upper class.🌦🥀🍂

Hey, sherry!
ReplyDeleteThis is your awesome old sport, Bill Shi. After reading your incredible blog, I was shocked by your amazing writing skills and great ability of thinking.
From your descriptions of two characters in the novel, I like your perspective toward Tom, which clearly tells readers the unequal relationship between Tom and Myrtle. In this way, I can understand your definition of American dream more directly. The quotation you used is also suitable for your definition of American dream which shows the inter class conflict between them, and your analysis of quotation provides an interesting way to understand the ridiculousness of Myrtle’s American dream. Then, I have to say my favorite part of your blog is the connection between your media example and character. What surprised me is that you find the similarity between them is not obvious but important which tells the truth behind the American dream that American dream is tool to gain profit for upper class people.
I have to say I can feel your enthusiasm from your highlights and the emoji you used. However, some emoji you used made me feel confused when I read your blog. As far as I am concerned, I think you can use more highlights to highlight the key word and important understanding of book.
Overall, it is still one of the best blogs I have seen, your unique understanding of American dream dose left a very deep impression.
