I believe that the American Dream is a trick, a strategy of infusion which people with higher education uses to compel people who are lack of education to achieve purposes. π¦π¦ Tom Buchanan and George Wilson ππare the most suitable examples of my American Dream. Tom Buchanan went to Yale, which represents the group of people with high educations.π³ George Wilson is an auto mechanic, who represents the group of people with lower educations. π’

Tom is a person with self- confident, high educated, control people for their own wills. They consider the power in society as protection to let them have free wills, including the action to use George for his own happiness. ππThe lack of education makes George Wilson a people who hide his actual weakness especially in front of the old money people, which cause him the loss of ability to trust himself. Tom is always insulting George in different ways in the story, and George is unable to fight against him due to his social level.π π
Tom was going to George’s car repair shop to see Myrtle, he acts like that he’s the purpose of going to George’s is to take care of George’s business. “ ‘I can’t complain,’ answered Wilson unconvincingly. ‘ When are you going to sell me that car?’ ‘ Next week; I’ve got my man working on it now.’” πΊπΊπΊTom is highly educated and was using his way of infusion to hide his real purpose of going to the repair shop. He is pretending to provide George with business and money which is a way to control Tom's mind and let him reminds himself that they are people in different social classes. However, George may know that Tom’s purpose is unclear. However, he is afraid to speak against Tom although he understands the American Dream as that everyone has the same rights to pursue their happiness. However, Tom is pleasing Goerge just for seeing George's wife, which connects to my idea of how the people with high education control the people who are lack of education for purposes.

George Wilson is unable to achieve his American Dream by giving his wife Myrtle a better quantity of life. However, he fits my American really well. πΉπΉTom's American dream would be having a small car shop with the business which would provide Myrtle with a better life. His whole American dream would be based on love. πHowever, he is having a problem with Myrtle can he could never achieve his American Dream like this.
In order for George Wilson to achieve his American Dream, society needs to change by clarifying the statements in the Declaration of Independenceπͺ that everyone is having the same rights and opportunities to achieve happiness, which is also the American Dream. George is still living in the Valley of Ashes, which meant ππto not have the same opportunity as the people who are Old Money. The society should give all the people a different idea of happiness and the American Dream, which doesn't have to be materials and education.

The characters and my media example shares a similarity idea. ππForm my media example, the billionaire Glenn is trying to prove that the American Dream can be achieved through hardworking. However, he is controlling the uneducated people's mind using his own convincing experiences which make the poor people work hard and achieve labour forces. The same thing is happening to Tom and George, Tom understands what George really need, and he is providing George with businesses, which is also a way to control himπππ

Betty's personal comments for Lily's part 2
ReplyDeleteHi, Lily,
This is Betty, who has the most exciting soul in the world. Your blog impressed me a lot through your solid language skills, unique writing style and beautiful decoration. Your pictures match your ideas so much, and I can easily understand what you want to express by your clear and neat paragraphs. Also, you use different colours to highlight some essential ideas from your understanding of the American Dream.
You did an excellent job on your character analysis. I couldn’t agree with you anymore!!! Also, you properly use a lot of emojis and icons that are suitable for your attitudes. Through this part, I can see your great understandings of the characteristics of Tom and George, which make a good foundation for your connection to the American dream.
However, not everything was so successful, in my opinion. You only need to use a few emojis instead of using too many, which made people distract attention from your ideas.
In my opinion, it seems that some parts weren’t successful. When you used characters connect to your theme, I couldn’t understand the last few sentences, such as “he is afraid to speak against Tom although he understands……happiness.” It seems that there was a little bit vague and separation from the context. You need to state more clearly about the relationship between “he is afraid to speak against” and the American Dream. Besides, I think you made a small expressing mistake. You mentioned that “Tom is pleasing George just for seeing George’s wife.” This did not fit the context that you said before. I guess you want to express Tom pretends to consider selling cars to George at a lower price. So, you should pay more attention to these details.
Also, there are a few things that you need to improve. In the sixth paragraph, you need to talk about how George achieve your American dream instead of using a lot of passages to demonstrate what is his American Dream. Furthermore, I think the change you talk about isn’t realistic. You can say some changes in the policies or characters themselves instead of in the declaration of independence. I suppose you should connect the change to your American dream and focus on why they need to change.
