Part 2--Jennifer(Yi ming) Xu--Unfair and realistic

Meyer Wolfshiem

He would be the partner of Gatsby๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’•'s who used illegal๐Ÿ’ฃ๐Ÿ’ฃ๐Ÿ’ฃ๐Ÿ’ฃ way to make money. He also lost the ability to judge that he believed Gatsby would graduate from Oxford and he would be a hero of war while he only cared about money.

American Dream would be that people would try their best๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ’ช to achieve their goals even the public would not support them and have bias on them. In the Great Gatsby๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’•, Meyer would be the person who could have enough power to ignore the society's prejudice and kept doing what he wanted to do๐Ÿ˜–๐Ÿ˜–๐Ÿ˜–๐Ÿ˜–๐Ÿ˜–๐Ÿ˜–. What he wanted would be money. He would have an underground chateau that would sell alcohol๐Ÿ˜ˆ๐Ÿ˜ˆ๐Ÿ˜ˆ to famous people including a senator. Those famous people would a shield of him that he would not be reported and he would not need to go to jail even he did many illegal things.

He would not have the ability to judge people because he only cared about how much money he could gain from his chateau. He just trusted the public and believed that Gatsby๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’• would graduate from Oxford๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ˜ณ and he would be the hero of wars. He did not have the ability to concern about one person's inside world but only the money and the artificial relationship๐Ÿ’ข๐Ÿ’ข๐Ÿ’ข๐Ÿ’ข.

The rule of the 19s century's society would be that people who had a lot of money could do against the rules without any punishment๐Ÿ˜•๐Ÿ˜•๐Ÿ˜•. If people did not have so much money would not have the privilege. Meyer kept following his want that he just wanted to gain money while he did not need to consider about other people's prejudice and the society's negative opinions๐Ÿ˜–๐Ÿ˜–๐Ÿ˜–๐Ÿ˜–๐Ÿ˜–๐Ÿ˜– because he had enough money and he did illegal things such as selling prohibited goods๐Ÿ’ฃ๐Ÿ’ฃ๐Ÿ’ฃ๐Ÿ’ฃ with celebrities. He did not need to worry about whether he would go to jail. Most powerful people would be criminal๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ‘‚๐Ÿ‘‚ and they would protect each other in order to benefit themselves.

"He went to Oggsford College in England."
"A perfect gentleman."
"He would never so much as look at a friend's wife."

Actually, Meyer achieve the American Dream in my definition. He did not need to think about the other people's opinions because he would be strong enough to ignore๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ˜•๐Ÿ˜•๐Ÿ˜•๐Ÿ‘ the other people's negative opinions. He could keep gaining what he wanted.

From my perspective, the only thing was needed to change would be that all the people's opinion๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‰ of money. Money๐Ÿ’ฃ๐Ÿ’ฃ๐Ÿ’ฃ would not be anything and it could not change people's mind๐Ÿ˜”๐Ÿ˜”๐Ÿ˜”๐Ÿ˜”๐Ÿ˜”. Money would not have the ability to make people have privilege๐Ÿ˜‘๐Ÿ˜‘๐Ÿ˜‘๐Ÿ˜‘๐Ÿ˜‘ so that rich people can do illegal things without punishment.

Meyer and Harris would show two different ways in the similar society. Meyer would be the person would be benefited by such a society while Harris would be disadvantaged people. They show that under the society, money and power would be the most crucial thing that can make people different from others. The two person would show the artificial society๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ more comprehensively.

  1. Part3: Sherry’s personal comment for Jennifer’s part2

    Hi!!!Jennifer๐Ÿ’“
I'm Sherry Zhang, who is your lovely girl๐Ÿ‘ฉ sitting at the table behind you!!!Do you still remember that!?It's nice to see your blog because it looks really gorgeous๐Ÿคฉ!!! After reading your blog2, the first thing attract my attention๐Ÿ‘€ is the typography and decoration. You really did a good job here.☺️ Also, I think you picked a great role. Many people would choose Gatsby, Daisy and Tom as their example. You chose Meyer Wolfshiem, who is in line with your interpretation of the American dream, which is to persist in one's dream regardless of others and finally achieve success. And what's really nice about this character is that it's also very ironic, because he's the only character who realizes the American dream and then does all the bad things and continues to maintain his wealth. ๐Ÿ‘ Besides, I understand your idea about the American Dream because you really analyze this character very well, both in terms of money and in terms of his attitude, showing a series of bad behaviors after the realization of the American dream. This brings you naturally to the idea that society needs to change. Because the society pays too much attention on money and the realization of the American dream will lead to this terrible situation. This makes me directly and clearly understand the connection between the two. I'm surprised at your meticulous logic. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’ช
However, there still exists some problems. You used a very good quotation here, but lacked a very detailed analysis... How does this phrase relate to the character, and how does it relate to your American dream? You need to focus more on that.๐Ÿง At the same time, your last paragraph does not elaborate on the similarities and differences between the two characters, nor does it closely relate to your own definition of the American dream. But in all, you did a great job! !!๐Ÿ‘
